Google’s Hustle Academy Awards N75 Million to 15 Nigerian SMBs

Google’s Hustle Academy recently celebrated its latest graduation ceremony, awarding N75 million to 15 small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in Nigeria. The total number of graduates from the academy has now reached an impressive 10,300.

Growing Impact: 5,000 in 2022 to 5,300 in 2023

The initiative, designed to address unique challenges faced by SMBs, offers a blend of financial aid, mentorship, and access to essential business tools. Google West Africa Country Director, Olumide Balogun, emphasized the program’s commitment to supporting ongoing development and learning.

“As an expanding community of businesses committed to ongoing development and learning, this year’s graduation builds upon the momentum established with last year’s 5,000 graduates.”

Hustle Academy Fund: Aiding Promising SMBs

In addition to the graduation, 15 SMBs were selected to receive support from the N75 million Hustle Academy Fund. This fund aims to provide financial assistance, mentorship, and access to crucial business tools for some of Nigeria’s most promising SMBs.

Olumide Balogun highlighted the inspiring passion and resilience shown by these SMBs, expressing that the academy is a testament to the achievements possible through focused training and resources.

We are not just celebrating their graduation today; we are recognizing their potential to reshape and invigorate the Nigerian business landscape.”

Diverse Impact Across Industries

The selected recipients of the academic fund represent various industries, showcasing the creativity of Nigerian entrepreneurs in enhancing their business acumen and expertise.

Charles Odii, Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, commended the initiative for aligning with the agency’s mandate to boost job creation, poverty alleviation, livelihood enhancement, and rural industrialization.

Empowering Entrepreneurs for Economic Growth

The initiative also includes a conditional grant scheme, providing grants to small businesses with the condition that they commit to employing at least one person. This approach aims to create a multiplier effect, generating thousands of jobs and contributing to economic growth.
